observing project -- Jupiter and Saturn appear low in the east at dawn
This
Web site is a resource for anyone (especially parents and their children)
interested in starting out in the great hobby of amateur astronomy.
At its most basic level, amateur astronomy requires just two things: two
eyes and a brain (well, I guess that's three things.) I trust most of
you accessing this site meet these minimum requirements!
The audience for this Web site is people who know next to nothing about
looking at the night sky, but would like to learn more about what they
can see if they walk out in their backyard the next clear night and look
up. I hope to encourage and motivate you folks before you get turned off
by high priced equipment and overly complex advice.
Astronomy is not rocket science (NASA is rocket science). In fact, astronomy
was probably one of mankind's first and most basic leisure activities.
Relaxing after a tough day of hunting saber-toothed tigers, our distant
ancestors undoubtedly laid back on the grass and looked up, wondering
what all those twinkling lights were. This Web site will help you identify
some of the twinkling lights and make some sense of what you are seeing.
I trust you will enjoy what I've put together. If you do, please recommend
it to others. You can also contact me if you have questions, comments,
ideas or suggestions. I'd love to hear from you. Use the "Contact
Me" link to the left, or email michaelwrogers@hotmail.com.
